Dr Stenhouse has proposed some of the alg as furnishing an economical source of mannite.

Proceed exactly as in preparing French Proof agar vide supra substituting Mannite (38 grammes) for maltose.

Schmiedeberg substitutes mannite and Cresswell glycerin for the Rochelle salt, in order to render the solution stable.

Mannite is obtained by extracting manna with alcohol and crystallizing the solution.

Various other kinds of manna are known, but none of these has been found to contain mannite.
