In the Joints, a serous synovitis or hydrops may occur, chiefly in the knee, on one or on both sides.

These changes in the synovial membrane are often associated with an abundant exudate or hydrops.

The capsular ligament, except in hydrops, is the seat of connective-tissue overgrowth, and tends to become contracted and rigid.

A numbness of the arms is a frequent symptom in hydrops thoracis, as explained in Class I. 2.

Sometimes the first manifestation is a hydrops and a fluctuating swelling in the upper part of Scarpa's triangle.
